Sports Bra Size & Impact Guide
Find the right sports bra by your size AND your sport. Yoga, running, HIIT, full-bust โ they need different support levels.
Impact levels โ what to wear
Low impact (yoga, Pilates, walking, weight lifting)
Light compression. Pull-over style. No underwire needed. Examples: Lululemon Energy, Nike Indy, Athleta Conscious Crop. C cup or smaller works in almost any style.
Medium impact (cycling, dance, hiking, casual fitness)
Compression + light encapsulation. Adjustable straps. May have removable pads. Examples: Nike Swoosh, Lululemon Energy Bra Long Line, Athleta Hyper Focused.
High impact (running, HIIT, jumping, basketball)
FULL encapsulation (separate cups), wide back band, adjustable straps. ESSENTIAL for any cup size โ Cooper's ligaments don't recover from impact damage. Examples: Brooks Juno, Shock Absorber, Panache, Enell.
Full-bust specific (D+ cups)
You need encapsulation (separate cups for each breast), not just compression. Brands: Panache Sport, Freya Active, Anita Active, Wacoal Sport, Enell.
FAQ
How tight should a sports bra be?
Tighter than a regular bra. Band: 2 fingers shouldn't fit easily. Cups: no spillage, no gapping. Straps: don't cut into shoulders.
How often should I replace a sports bra?
6โ12 months for daily use. Replace when band stretches (elastic loss), straps stretch, or you notice less support during workouts. Worn-out sports bras don't protect ligaments.
Do I need a sports bra for low-impact workouts?
D+ cup: yes, even for yoga. A-C cup: optional for yoga but recommended for sustained activity.
Can I wear a sports bra all day?
OK occasionally but not ideal long-term. Tight bands can restrict breathing and lymphatic flow. For all-day wear, use a wireless lounge bra instead.
